Fairtrade Fortnight in Norfolk 2008

Other Types of Trade

Fairtrade, Ethical Trade and the Body Shop's Community Trade all aim to strengthen the economic situation of workers in developing countries.

Ethical trade usually refers to companies who show a willingness to improve their trading relationships. Many of these companies are involved in the Ethical Trading Initiative. The ETI is a group of companies, non-governmental organisations and trade unions who work together to make sure that companies adhere to codes of conduct and labour standards. Their work is based on standards laid down in Conventions agreed under the International Labour Organisation.

The Body Shop's Community Trade purchases accessories and natural products from disadvantaged communities from around the world. The Body Shop buys their products at a fair price which covers production, wages and enough to invest in the future. They too emphasize the importance of the relationship between producer and retailer.
