On the 25th March 2003 Norwich City Council passed a resolution with cross-party support supporting Fairtrade. Between March 2003 and April 2006 Jane Rooza, Liberal Democrat Councillor and Executive Member for Environment, took responsibility to work with Fair Trade in Norfolk in achieving Fairtrade status for Norwich, and co-ordinated the monitoring group. This role has now been taken on by Sharon Quantrell, Economic Development Officer. Norwich City Council now:

  • serves Fairtrade refreshments at all its meetings and in its offices and canteens
  • is using Fairtrade wine at many civic receptions
  • helps distribute the Fairtrade Guide to Norwich through City Hall
  • promotes the work of Fair Trade in Norfolk through its own website and magazine, Citizen
  • provides the Fairtrade City Status monitoring group a meeting space.
