Goal 5: Fairtrade City Status Monitoring Group
Maintaining and developing support
The Fairtrade status for Norwich has only been achieved by ongoing campaigning since 2002 by Fair Trade in Norfolk (FTiN) with the support of Norwich City Council, prominent city businesses, voluntary organisations, schools, faith groups and the local media. However, gaining Fairtrade City status is not the end of the story! In order to maintain the accreditation we must demonstrate that Norwich is not only maintaining its support for fair trade, but also developing it.
This includes having increases in:
- the number of shops and cafés selling Fairtrade products
- the number of local work places (estate agents, hairdressers etc) and community organisations (churches, schools and so on) using Fairtrade products
- the commitment from the local council
- media coverage to raise public awareness.
To make this possible, we have set up a monitoring group to work alongside FTiN to ensure that commitment to fair trade in Norwich keeps growing. This group meets 3 to 4 times a year and is responsible for co-ordinating the research and submitting the evidence of progress to the Fairtrade Foundation.
We need to hear from you!
If you would like to join the Norwich Fairtrade City Monitoring Group we still need more members, particularly from:
- faith groups
- schools
- the business world
- the media.
