The following list of resources has been compiled by FTiN volunteers to help teachers explore issues around trade, fair trade and trade justice in the classroom. These resources are hosted by both FTiN and external websites.

Bananas and Cocoa Beans (344 KB, PDF)
Investigates our links with people across the globe through trade in food and drink products. Includes teacher information, pupil activities and photocopiable materials.
Banana Game (32 KB, PDF)
The Banana Game has been produced by Banana Link and is adapted from a game initially published by Christian Aid. It allows players to discover what happens to a banana before it reaches the consumer and to introduce the reality of 'who gets what' in the chain.
Cafédirect Case Study
Covers the history of Cafédirect and gives details of the Cafédirect Consortium, as well as marketing and promotional strategies. Plenty of information on producers and coffee production too. Designed for GNVQ/GCSE Business Studies. Produced by Traidcraft.
Choc-a-lot (? KB, PDF)
Detailed outline of activities for a day workshop which introduces young people to the issues behind the global chocolate industry. It enables them to find out the facts, develop a wide range of skills and have confidence to take action for change. Themes include:
  • the role of chocolate in our lives
  • how chocolate is made
  • how the big chocolate companies increase their profits at the cost of cocoa farmers
  • the role of fair trade and how to take further action to demand better conditions for producers.
Coffee Game (619 KB, PDF)
This role play activity aims to enable participants to gain an understanding of the way in which international trade in a crop grown for export affects the families involved in four different countries.
Day Chocolate Company Case Study
Find out about the Day Chocolate Company, which is part-owned by a Ghanaian farmers co-operative.

Free on-line resource to explore ethical issues within the global fashion industry.
Fairtrade Assembly (? KB, PDF)
Three adaptable 15 minute assemblies, focusing on different Fairtrade products:
  • chocolate
  • bananas
  • clothes/fashion.
Each assembly explains the problems faced by producers and the choices we have as consumers.

Outlines the injustices of the world trade system and introduces Fairtrade as an alternative.
Growing Bananas (? KB, PDF)
A trading game exploring the conditions faced by Caribbean banana growers.
Labels in Their Clothes (896 KB, PDF)
We spend over 15 billion each year on clothes in the UK but do we ever think about the wages and working conditions of the producers who make them? By exploring the globalisation of the fashion industry students will be able to increase their awareness and understanding about how the choices we make as consumers affect other people's economies and environments.
Make Your School Fairtrade Friendly
Launched in October 2005, this pack is designed for primary schools and provides a wealth of information, learning resources, lesson plans, photos, songs and lots more. From the site you can download the pack, view the image gallery, play interactive games and order the accompanying CD-ROM.
Milking It
Oxfam's excellent, new on-line resource on small farmers and international trade. Compare the lives of two dairy farmers in very different countries. How are they affected by international trade rules? Who makes these rules, and what can we do to change them?
Passion for Fashion (? KB, PDF)
Outlines the programme for an action-packed one day event which enables participants to explore the global fashion industry, and find answers to issues of ethical trade and workers rights.
Pa Pa Paa
The Day Chocolate Company has just launched a new Pa Pa Paa teaching pack about Fairtrade, cocoa and chocolate with Comic Relief. The website is supported by a DVD and photo pack. The DVD comes with 10 double sided colour photos showing the Bean to Bar story, examples of Social premium funded projects and different aspects of life in cocoa growing communities in Ghana.
